Play is one thing we’ve all done in our lives, most notably as kids. However, I’ve noticed that through the years, I’ve gotten less and less play and more and more homework. This correlated with the Ted talks video Mr. Ziebarth showed my AP Language class about how play has changed throughout the years.

Schools are giving kids less and less play time, something which is vital to growing up. Playtime helps kids develop social skills to interact with others and to make friends, and schools are taking that away in favor of school work. Taking away play takes away a kid’s creativity and imagination as well as limiting their ability to learn how to socialize. After participating in the Global School Play Day and playing card games with my friends, I am reminded again that we should all take time out of our day to play with our friends and I also believe now that schools should give kids more time to play.
